Off To Rosarito Again

Later tonight, I leave for Rosarito again. Going with Dan, Grant, and his pseudo girlfriend. Should be back sometime Monday night. I’ve been trying to keep up that diet so I can feel comfortable taking my shirt off at the beach, but I don’t think I’m quite there yet. Down to 170lbs which is ok, but I still want to lose another 10-15lbs. Being 5’8″, about 155lbs sounds about right, yes no? The diet part and eating healthy in general was the easy part. Now I’m actually going to have to work out to get rid of the flab. Ugh… work!

Umm, I’m moving to a new place at the end of this month. It’s a big deal considering I’ve been at my current place for 7 years now. Also looking to upgrade to a new bike. I’ll talk more about those things when I get back. I’ll keep my fingers crossed to not get nabbed by the authorities.

High School Reunion Coming

My 10 year high school reunion is coming up in July. 10 years! I can’t believe how long it’s been. Am I interested in going? Oh hell yes! Why? I have no idea, but I know I’m going to make it fun for myself. That’s for sure. I never really understood the point of reunions before this week. I mean why would you ever want to see those people again? It was probably the time in your life where you were most ignorant to how the “real world” worked so chances are you probably didn’t come off being very smart. I know I didn’t. So I’m doing this to prove to other people I’ve grown up a little? I’m happy with just myself, my family, and my friends knowing that. Is it to reconnect yourself with people you haven’t seen or talked to in a while? Why? There’s obviously a reason these people leave your life. If I wanted to stay in contact with them, I would have.

So I did say I felt this way up until this week. Well, I kind of understand it now. You simply do somehow lose track of people that you do want to keep in touch with and the reunion does help you find them. I’ve had a couple people either call me or e-mail me this week that I haven’t talked to for forever now and it actually has been great to hear from them.

So yeah. I feel old. Questions just get brought up that you don’t want to hear and have trouble answering. How did I get to be 27 so damn quickly? Am I happy where I am in life? What do I want to accomplish before the 20 year reunion? I guess my general feeling is I’m happy. Why wouldn’t I be? Got good family and friends. My job doesn’t suck and I make good money at it. I also know I’m capable of more so that leads me to believe it will just get better.

Where was I going with this? I’m not so sure. Alright, back to work.

New Hosting Service (again)

So I moved again to a different hosting provider. This time it’s DreamHost. The big things that brought me over to them were the unlimited domains, streaming servers, bandwidth, price, and all of the different applications they have set up for developers. Check them out and if you like them enough to sign up, put my name in the reference field. I’m also doing all of my comments through HaloScan now. Since I’m now off of Userland’s slow ass comment server, my site should load reasonably quicker now. All of the past comments I’ve gathered over the last 4 years are lost now, but I don’t think I mind too much. If I can get stingy Userland to fork them over, I’ll import them into the HaloScan database.

MacBook Pro Arrived

Something exciting obviously got me to post here. Oh it’s damn exciting too. My MacBook Pro is here! A full 2 weeks sooner than the estimated arrival date. A 2.0GHz Core Duo laptop in all of its glory. Now I just need to get home early and start setting up. Having trouble coming up with a name for this one, though. Ivory was my PowerMac G3 desktop. My PowerBook G3 was, naturally, Ebony. SawTeeth was my dual G4 tower. All of the different revisions of my PC were called Monolith. Can’t figure out what I’m gonna call this new one. Suggestions?

Scarsdale Medical Diet

I’ve just started my second week on a diet. My first diet ever really. Never even tried before because it seemed like there was way too much tracking involved. I don’t want to have to count calories, make special foods, or even think too hard about what I’m going to eat next. That’s why I went with the Scarsdale Medical Diet. No counting. No guessing. There’s a very specific menu you MUST follow and that’s just easy for me. Putting no thought into it and just eating what it tells me too. It’s been a pain in my ass, but I’ve already lost about 6 pound in one week. I guess the terrible lunches and crappy snacks are worth it. Good news is all the dinners are meat and fish. Big fan of meat and fish here. I’ll do an update on this next week.

Aborted Camaro Concept Design

Want to see what the original Camaro Concept that would have been released at the 2005 show last year? It got scrapped and transformed into the one we know today. Autoblog has the story.

2006 Camaro Concept that we all know.

Original concept that was scheduled for release in 2005.

Clay model of a strange fastback version.

Original concept next to a 1st-gen Camaro.

Hmm. The original concept looks way too much like a 1st-gen Camaro and that fastback version is just ugly. I’m happy they went back and made the thing look revolutionary instead of evolutionary. People need to know this is a new vehicle that only shares the name and heart of the original Camaro.

More Camaro… Almost Confirmed

Autoblog: “Speaking at the Automotive News World Congress, Ed Welburn, Camaro fanatic and GM Vice President Global Design, all but confirmed that the Camaro concept will see production.”

Sweet! Sorry for all of the Camaro posts lately. It’s what I’m most excited about right now. Well, that and my MacBook Pro. Actually, I’ve been getting a very large amount of hits from the Camaro stuff so at least I know I’m not the only one interested.

Cars, Computers, & Refrigerators… Oh My!

Wow! What a week it’s been and it’s only Wednesday. A complete 180 from last week. USC’s loss, Carson Palmer injured, hell breaking lose at work, yada yada yada… So why is this week so good?

Monday, the Camaro is resurrected in the form of the Camaro Concept. The car is unbelievable! A 400hp, 2+2 seat configured, rear wheel drive coupe. Great! Add in 30mpg, displacement-on-demand technology, and a completely modern chassis/suspension/braking package and I’d say it’s damn near close to perfect. Chevrolet just needs to give me the word on an official release and I’m dropping my deposit for it. Yes, I’ll wait the 2-3 years for this.

Monday also brought great tidings of cold and freshness. What does this mean? Remember way back in February of last year when I was dealing with another round of refrigerator blue? Of course you don’t. Well I’ve been without a completely working refrigerator since that time. The freezer worked, but the refrigerator part didn’t. You take things like keeping food cold for granted. After a while of dealing with this problem, my roommate and I eventually just learned to live around it. We bought only non-perishable items and anything that could be frozen. I’d come home every day after work and take my frozen orange juice out of the freezer, even if I didn’t want any. That way if I did want some later, it would be somewhat thawed out. That’s the way we rolled. Well all of that came to a close on Monday also. When I got home, I had a brand new Maytag MFF2557H. 25 cubic feet, french doors, bottom freezer, dual freezing engines, ice maker. This thing is pimp. Now I just need to re-learn that it’s ok to buy perishable items.

Tuesday. MacWorld! The rumors went super wild this time about what was getting released and they couldn’t have been more off this time around. Intel iMacs and (what I thought stole the show) pro laptops all based around the Core Duo processor. I have been dying for a couple of years now to replace my aging G4/450×2 desktop with a high performance laptop. Never been able to do it because the Powerbook G4 was just not worth the money in my opinion. Well that’s changing today when I order my MacBook Pro. Pretty amazing stuff here. Fast processor, extremely fast graphics card, and loaded with new tech. The only thing lame about it is the stupid name. MacBook Pro? You could have done better than that Apple. I didn’t see any problem keeping the Powerbook name. Oh well. I can finally ditch all of that hardware sitting on my desks for something smaller, sleeker, and more powerful. Not shipping until February? Ok, I can wait.

So that’s the week so far. Very consumer whorish of me, I know. Oh well. What are ya gonna do? The only thing that might be able to top this week would be making sweet sweet love to Lindsay Lohan or something, and that’s not even a sure thing to beat this week.
