Monday Thoughts

I’m thinking that I need to post a lot more personal stuff on here because that was the original reason I made the-journals.com and I haven’t really stuck to the formula. I think on of the big reasons I stopped is because I didn’t want to hurt or offend anyone who might be reading it, but you know what? F*ck ’em. Everyone knows already that I don’t mean to hurt people. I already say things like I see them in real life. Might as well do it in my virtual life too.

I’m thinking because of the lack of interesting content on this site, maybe it’s about time to open up my personal journal I kept online last year when I was going through a lousy breakup with my ex-girlfriend. It was something I was keeping before I started the-journals.com (which I actually started because of that whole bullsh*t time of my life) and was suppose to be included in the first set of posts, but I never got around to it. I think it’s interesting because it’s a perfect example of how feelings get in the way of rational decision making (something I very much try and not let myself do now). You’ll be able to actually see how this one girl really screwed up my thinking and the stupid things I continued to do while we were still interacting afterwards.

I’m thinking that I need to come up with better themes for October. All of them have been pretty basic and none worked very well. Starting sometime this week, I’m going to make themes based on my favorite Halloween-type movies. If ya know me, I’m pretty sure you can guess what the first one is going to be.

More thoughts as the day goes by…

October 2002 Theme #4

I know I said I would post up something here soon but I have just not been able to get around to it lately. Look for more content very soon. Until then, enjoy the next Halloween theme created by my friend.

No Time

Sorry I haven’t been able to post anything interesting on here in a while. I just haven’t even had the time to wipe my ass lately. Hopefully tonight or tomorrow I’ll update everyone with what’s going on (like you really care anyway) and change out this God awful theme.

Quick side note here. This is my 150th post for the-journals.com and I see no end in sight. Good news for me (and sorry for you). Good luck to us all…

Confessions of a Mac to PC Convert… Not Quite True

A friend brought this to my attention just now. It’s very interesting (at least to us) and I figure I’d share. The following page was posted on Microsoft’s official site this morning (if the first link doesn’t work, try the next):

Link #1
a href=”http://www.google.com/search?q=cache:JmwQcVoG-ucJ:www.microsoft.com/insider/opsystems/windowsxp_setup.asp+windowsxp_setup.asp&hl=en&ie=UTF-8″>Link #2

Read through it completely. If it doesn’t work, I took a screen capture of the site that you can find here.

Obviously, it’s some sort of marketing strategy to counter Apple’s very successful Switch campaign. Read into it a little more and the other obvious thing you’ll see is that it’s a bunch of bullsh*t written by some low-level boring marketing guy trying to be “trendy”, somewhat technical, and is in fact NOT the girl pictured on that page (like it claims to be). Well ok, so MS had one of the marketing guys do the writing for her. The important thing is they’re showing real people making the real switch from Apple to MS, right? Wrong again. The girl isn’t even real. After this page surfaced this morning, this page was also found showing who this girl actually is. Just another nameless face in a bunch of stock photography.

The page on Microsoft’s site mysteriously went away about an hour ago. You would think that with the marketing power behind a company like Microsoft, they could come up with something that ISN’T a complete lie. I mean I’m sure there’s been a good amount of people who’ve switched from a Mac to Windows XP. Is there something wrong with their stories? There is no getting around something like this. They were caught red handed. Just something to think about.

Update: Check out the article CNET is now running. Seems like MS has officially fessed up to the lie, is very sorry about the whole thing, and “regrets the action”. They have also stated they will NOT do any “convert” ad dealing with the subject. Bad MS…

October 2002 Theme #3

Theme # 3 for for October is now up. Again, let me know how bad it sucks. I really like the concept, but I don’t think I was able to apply it well here. Not to worry though. My friend is imporving it.

By the way, you can find any of my older themes in my Theme Archive page. There is a link for it the links section.

Quote of the Day: 2002-10-09

I don’t usually put up quotes from this guy that mean too much (go figure), but I think this particular one actually has some strong underlining meaning:

“Life is too short to date your own race.” – Hien Tran

That is unless I’m reading into it too much and he simply just means what he says. In fact, nevermind. He probably said exactly what he meant.

Refrigerator Blues

I don’t know how many people my refrigerator has been passed down by, but I think I’m like the third to get it. It was basically abandoned at my apartment by my ex-girlfriend when she moved out. At the time, I was happy I didn’t need to go out there and spend money on an other one. Now that’s all changed. The things been leaking ever since I could remember dealing with it (which is about 2 years) and the door never did shut right (unless you kicked the bottom of it). The last couple of days, I’ve come home to an almost flooded kitchen floor. Fortunately for me, I bought another refrigerator from my friend right before he moved to Arizona. Unfortunately, the thing is only big enough to fit 2 midgets in it (1 1/2 comfortably).

What does this mean? I need to buy a refrigerator. I’m, obviously, not going to buy new so I guess it’s time to start hitting up the classifieds and Goodwill. Of do you have a better idea? I want to get something by the end of this weekend coming up, so any and all advice is great.

Digital Cable Brings Me Happiness

I got all of my digital cable boxes installed yesterday. It’s really a great thing because it makes find anything a snap. Also ordered a couple of premium packages like the digital sports package. Now I get all ESPNs and FOXSPORTS channels. What does this mean? I will be able to watch the Chicago Bears every weekend now! I also bought this other package that has things like a bunch of the different Discovery and Learning channels, the Independent Movie Channel, and the Sundance Channel. You want to know the real reason I bought that package? It’s got the Women’s Entertainment channel that plays Felicity 3 times a day on it! Oh joy!
